Under the patronage of His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HH The Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Qatar University, attended the graduation ceremony of Qatar University's 41st batch of 2018 at the new Sports and Events Complex at the university this morning.
The graduation ceremony was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and Ministers, along with members of the university administration and faculty, and parents.
The ceremony started with verses from the Holly Quran recited by Faculty of Engineering student Abdullah Khaled Al Najmi.
After that, a film was screened about Qatar University's vision, plan and achievements since its establishment in addition to the scientific research and academic activities, its local and international partnerships, and other projects it carries in contribution to fulfilling the needs of the community. Then a presentation was made on the most outstanding achievements of the university's students and their participations in Qatar and abroad.
HH The Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani honored the outstanding graduate students and handed them certificates.
HE President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham, handed over certificates to the 808 graduate students in various disciplines.
HE Dr. Al Derham delivered a speech in the beginning of the ceremony saying that the celebration of this batch of graduates comes at a time when the State of Qatar is living an important phase in its history, in which the people of Qatar as well as its residents have laid out a unique epic in solidarity and loyalty to the wise leadership.
In this context, he praised the wise leadership that efficiently steered the ship of the homeland, in a stormy atmosphere of intrigues and conspiracies, embodied in an unjust blockade that sought to destroy the present and future of Qatar.
In the course of his speech, Dr. Al Durham highlighted the achievements which the University has made in recent years, thanks to the continuous support of the Board of Trustees, to occupy a leading position among the list of the best universities in the world and for the third consecutive year, ranked Number One in the International Outlook indicator in the overall Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings list. He stressed that this achievement was the result of sincere efforts exerted by Qatar University's faculty, researchers and students.
He also pointed to the important role of universities in building societies by disseminating science and allowing students access to scientific research as well as enriching the human experience through creativity and arts.
Dr. Al Derham pointed out to the rapid political, social and economic changes, currently taking place in the world, as well as the implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which will change the way people live, to impose a new reality on the needs and requirements of the labor markets.
